This year, for the first time, Elthamread is accompanied by a ‘Junior Elthamread’.

For Junior Elthamread, the chosen book is This Wonderful Thing, a humorous and sensitive story for nine to 12-year-olds, by Adam Baron, who lives in Greenwich. Adam will be running workshops for schools at Eltham Library in early October as well as another event at half-term. His publisher, HarperCollins, is donating ten copies to the Book Bank.

Eltham Library manager Miriam Storey says she is ‘thrilled’ to extend the Elthamread to younger readers this year. “We really want to encourage children on their reading journeys and to promote reading for pleasure. Adam Baron is a fantastic author, This Wonderful Thing is a fast-paced story with lots of funny moments while also tackling some relatable themes. I’m really looking forward to hearing what our junior Eltham readers think!’
